Results Achieved

Refinery Process Design and Project Management

·       Project FEED saving 29 million dollars per year in refinery operating costs through recovery of waste gas streams.

·       Lead through FEED the team of engineers who created an alternative design for a refinery emergency blow down system with capital cost savings of ten million dollars.

·       Managed the year-long HAZOP project reviewing the safety critical status of approximately 6,500 instruments in the largest U.S. refinery utilizing engineering experts and first line supervisors from the 17 refinery process units.

·       Re-designed the laboratory project plan and lead of the implementation in all refinery and chemical plant control centers of a computerized process control sampling system for the petrochemical-refinery complex.

Compounded Polypropylene -- Process Technical and Quality Management

·       Process technical and quality management at 7 contract production facilities during start-up of a joint venture between ExxonMobil Chemical and Mitsubishi to produce proprietary polypropylene compounds for automotive applications.

·       Utilized problem solving methods and knowledge of analytical techniques (ICPES, FTIR, EDS) to create and sustain a product quality system to gain status as a polymer supplier to major automotive manufacturers (Honda, Nissan, Chrysler)

Polypropylene Production -- Process Design and Technical Support

·       Provided safety review with approval authority for all process and procedure changes in a world-scale polypropylene production plant encompassing pipe loop, stirred tank and fluidized bed technologies.

·       The Design Basis Memorandum for the major de-bottleneck of the world scale polypropylene production line.

·       The Design Basis Memorandum and/or Process Design Specification for multiple smaller projects encompassing catalyst preparation facilities, polymer de-volatilization, and additive transfer systems including chair of the design HAZOP.

·       The quality system design that included specifications for all raw materials as the point of contact for 75 suppliers of over 100 different raw materials including catalysts, monomers, co-monomers and additives for a world-scale polypropylene production plant.

Polyethylene Production -- Process Design and Technical Support

·       Authored the study comparing the Net Present Value of 3 different technologies (pipe loop slurry, CSTR slurry and gas phase bed) for production of polyethylene at 7 worldwide locations with adjustment for location specific costs for capital and raw materials and the grade slate capability of each technology versus a given market.

·       Invented a novel reactor technology to produce polyethylene with unique properties and structure

·       Leadership of the process technical group(s) that implemented higher alpha-olefin co-monomer technology in both the U.S. and Canadian world-scale polyethylene gas phase technology plants

·       Technical group headship for the 1st plant demonstration of condensed mode fluidized bed reactor technology.

·       Project management for a pilot plant completed 8 weeks ahead of schedule at 70% of the original project appropriation
